An historical plaque records: St Mary's Roman Catholic Church - A substantial locally quarried sandstone building, designed by F W Schaeffer (Grafton Architect) in 1893. This building commands an extremely prominent position overlooking the Township.

The St Mary's Catholic Church, Maclean is part of the Parish of Maclean and the Diocese of Lismore. The present church building was completed about 1893, and replaced an earlier building erected in 1867 and altered over the years. No other details are known.
