An historical plaque records: St Peter's - Anglican Church - The Church's foundation stone was laid in [30th April] 1859 by Captain [Charles Philip] Brewer, the Government Resident. At the first service conducted by the Reverend W B Andrew's in 1860, it was noted that there were 'no pews but good attendance'. Pews were later added and 'rented' to many well-known local families. The tower and bell were added in 1896. There are lovely stained glass windows, including one in memory of shipping merchant, George Ormerod.

The text on the foundation stone is not known. Information/photographs are invited.

A plaque records: Beatrice Maude Foster and - Ellene Foster had this Porch - restored in its centenary year - May 1959 in loving memory of their - sister Louisa Dorothy Foster - Died 15~5~58.
